Senior Adult Ministry
According to the historical record offered in 'Valley Grove Baptist Church - The First 100 Years', we read that the Senior Adult Ministry (originally known as the Senior Citizens Group) was established in October 1973. Many traditions established during this time are still followed. For example, a covered dish meal followed by an interesting program is held once a month. The first Sunday in May is recognized as Senior Adult Day by the Southern Baptist Convention. On that day, Valley Grove sets aside a time to honor and recognize the senior adults for their years of service.
Additionally, senior trips are planned monthly to various destinations where sights, good food and fellowship can be enjoyed. Trips have included seniors being entertained by plays and musical productions, enlightened by historic tours, intrigued by “mystery trips”, captivated by the beauty of God’s creation throughout our great country, and shopping of course!
Valley Grove Baptist Church is honored to have a Senior Adult Committee that works to plan the calendar for the ministry. For 2011, the committee members are Mary Lou Houser, Norma Campbell, Charlotte Trout, Betty Atchley, Barbara Maples, Gail Norwood, Dick Bush, Caroline Long and Dick & Anne Knutson
There is much to be learned from our senior adults. Proverbs 16:31 NIV advises that “Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.” Our senior adults are faithful servants, and are foundational to the strength and resolve of our membership. We should therefore show respect to them as Leviticus 19:32 advises, “'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.”
We, at Valley Grove Baptist Church, invite you to be a part of our Senior Adult Ministry. These loving folks are worth getting to know! We also invite you to familiarize yourself with other areas of ministry, and get involved.
